Longest six in IPL history: Top 10 biggest sixes in IPL

July 2, 2021 by Admin Leave a Comment

Most cricketing nations consider the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be the largest domestic Twenty20 league. Gratitude for the real money spent by the franchise and the combination of glamor with cricket. But if the team doesn’t play good cricket in the stadium, all these things are secondary. What attracts the real crowd in the stadiums is the huge sixes hit by the cricketers.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 Mumbai Indians have just finished the Champions Trophy for the fifth time, beating the capitals of Delhi. Mumbai Indians became the first team to win a back-to-back title nine years after the Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and 2011. Amazing fielding, great bowling spells, a thrilling cameo, and huge sixes are some of the things that cricket fans always imagine and think about.

In a tournament like the Indian Premier League, every team needs some players who can hit big sixes at will. These power hits let the fans enjoy the game better because they want to see some long sixes in the tournament. In the last edition of the IPL, Nicholas threw the old 108m six, which was the longest of the season. A few other big hitters like MS Dhoni and Sanju Samson could also hit sixes in the 100 meters.

The second player on the list is also not an expert batsman. Praveen Kumar hit a 124-meter six against Lasith Malinga in the Indian Premier League 2011, making him a dark horse on the list. In the same season, Adam Gilchrist hit a 122-meter six when he was part of the Punjab team. Playing for RCB in Indian Premier League 2010, Robin Uthappa is fourth on the list with six 120m records.

Let’s take a look at the 10 longest sixes in the history of IPL:

Albie Morkel (IPL 2008)- 125 meter

Albie Morkel

South African all-rounder Albie Morkel could no longer be a part of the IPL but he is still remembered for his great sixes. The record for the longest six in the IPL was set by the South African all-rounder to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first edition of the IPL and is still held today. Albie’s huge strike of 125 meters is the longest six in the history of IPL. The South African all-rounder is considered one of the hardest hits of the game. He made his CSK debut in the 2008 edition and played six seasons for the franchise. Morkel hit Pragyan Ojha for a massive 125-m six in the cow-corner area.

Praveen Kumar (IPL 2011)- 124 meter

Praveen Kumar

The second biggest IPL of all time belongs to six veteran Kumars. Hard to believe, but he smashed Mumbai Indians ’Lasith Malinga in a 124-meter six. Praveen Kumar, who played for Kings XI Punjab, hit a magnificent 124-meter six, the second-longest six in IPL history. In the longest six-list IPL, Praveen Kumar is second only to Morkel.

Adam Gilchrist (IPL 2011)- 122 meter

Adam Gilchrist

Slotting at No. 3, is Adam Gilchrist. His huge, 122-meter hit for Kings XI Punjab is the second highest of the 2011 season. He is still ranked third in the list of the top six distances in the IPL. Gilchrist hit RCB bowler, Charles Langvelt with a huge 122m. He scored 108 runs off just 55 balls to take his Kings 11 Punjab team to 232-2 in 20 overs.

Robin Uthappa (IPL 2010)- 120 meter

Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa is the fourth highest six in the IPL. Robin doesn’t respond to shouting slogans or hitting the ball hard, relying more on the timing of the sixes. Interestingly, he has hit the longest six in the history of the Indian Premier League. In one of the matches against CSK in the 2010 edition, Robin Uthappa threw six 120-meter-long sixes to Dwayne Bravo. Uthappa is also on the list of the highest number of people in the Indian Premier League, where he is at number 11. He is one of the most successful batsmen of Kolkata Knight Riders and is now part of Chennai Super Kings.

Yuvraj Singh (IPL 2009)- 119 meter

Yuvraj Singh

When we talk about sixes how can six king Yuvraj Singh not come in the list of maximum six meters in IPL. Yuvraj Singh is at number five in the list. He hit six 119-meter sixes in the mid-wicket zone near Albie Morkel. Yuvraj scored 56 runs off 34 balls in that match. Yuvraj Singh is not alone. Prince shared fifth place with Chris Gayle and Ross Taylor. In the opening season of the IPL in 2008, Taylor suffered a major blow when RCB batsman Ross Taylor faced his compatriot Jacob Oram, who was playing for CSK. The 5th highest six in the IPL was a deep mid-wicket hit. Taylor came in at bat number. 3 positions and finished 59 runs off just 34 balls. Gayle’s 119-meter long hit came in the 2013 season.

Gautam Gambhir (IPL 2014)- 118 meter

Gautam Gambhir

Like Robin Uthappa, Gambhir is known for setting his time and place, but from time to time Gautam Gambhir is also known for losing his composure. Interestingly, Gambhir is on the list of the top ten sixes in history and he is sitting at number one. He was in a serious mood when he opened the innings against Rajasthan Royals. The skipper of the side casually walked across and flicked the Sreesanth over midwicket for a superb 118 m hit. With a new ball in his hand, Shri probably thought of putting the ball on top and shaking it a bit. Unfortunately, Gambhir was in a completely different mood and did not give Sreesanth a chance to create pressure.

Ben Cutting (IPL 2016)- 117 meter

Ben Cutting

Tall and powerful Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting was quite a big name in the Big Bash, but only when he made an appearance in the IPL. Ben Cutting hit the longest six of IPL 2016 in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 19th over of the game when another Australian Shane Watson bowled a waist full toss and hit a fatal six on the boundary of the Australian all-rounder score. The ball traveled 117 meters and the cutting ended with 39 off 15 balls.

MS Dhoni (IPL 2012)- 112 meter

MS Dhoni

When we are talking about sixes and also in IPL, how can the best finishers of all time (MS Dhoni) not come in this list. One of the strongest indicators of the ball, MS Dhoni showed his brutal strength in the eliminator match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians during the 2012 IPL campaign. CSK captain James Franklin bowled a 112-meter six.

AB de Villiers (IPL 2018)- 111 meter

AB de Villiers

One of the greatest cricketers of contemporary cricket and former South African captain AB de Villiers is one of the most terrifying hits in the game with his ability to hit anywhere on the field. And this is why the world knows him as Mr. 3 360. In a game against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2018, AB de Villiers hit Imran Tahir for a humongous 111 meters long six over mid-wicket at the Chinnaswamy stadium.Chris Gayle also hit a 111-meter six and so both are sitting at No. 9.

David Miller (IPL 2014)- 110 meter

David Miller

David Miller is one of the most devastating hits in world cricket at the moment. Miller is a natural six-hitter and has hit some big men in the Indian Premier League as well. During the ninth edition of the IPL, Miller made a hit for 110 meters, which still remains one of the largest in the history of competition.
